progress on hubbys blanket

Thu Feb 19, 2009, 11:25 AM
About a year ago i came up with the idea to show my love to my husband and knit him a blanket. Of course being the first blanket as well as the first big project that i figured I'd accomplish it didn't turn out so well. Him being my husband he wanted a pricey yarn that was soft and that i hadn't worked with Homespun. Well not really that pricey but 5 bucks a skien for 10 skeins which only has 187 yards yeah thats kinda pricey. I wanted the blanket to fit him and possibly an extra on a cold winters day so i wanted it big and roomy. Again my husband being my husband wanted a pattern that now is easy but at the time was a disaster for i couldn't count my rows or how to identify what was what stitch, and i kept losing count which didn't help the situation any. After a Year of knitting and blocking and growing tired of the endless color and the endless rows of repeatability unchanging pattern i finally finished. Just to realize that it wouldn't work, it was big enough yes, but after a week was already coming apart, wholes and seams and all. So i decided to look at some blankets pattern from lionsbrand and red heart and much to my astonishment not only did they use more yarn but they doubled up to make it thicker and the pattern once knit up more defined. So i tore back and started anew double up and i really love the results so far, warmer, faster to knit (now that i know what it is that i am doing) most likely more yarn will be needed but thats okay i want to make it perfect and considering i finished a throw for me within that week before the whole became apparent is doesn't have to be so big and roomy for two one works just fine eventually I'll make that one big blanket for a cold winters day when lovers snuggle.

It's weird that photographers spend years or even a whole lifetime, trying to capture moments that added together, don't even amount to a couple of hours.

A bit of applied maths: If you integrate a stitch with respect to wool, you get a row, integrate again, you get a pattern.
